^^^This is what all the people reading Heirs To A Secret think I’m doing right now^^^
Greetings, dudes and dudettes! I’m back!
Today we’re going to sit down at take a look at some of the
strange amazing smol bean children in my newest WIP, Heirs To A Secret!
Heirs To A Secret. The bane, joy, pride, and the smol son of my existence. It’s been a roller coaster writing this book. And by roller coaster I mean this.
^^Accurate depiction of me writing this book^^
It’s been a whirlwind of me trying to write something I have never attempted before (well, more like never attempted with success) that I have no idea how to write and there are literally almost NO articles of help on the internet.
AND IT’S STILL NOT DONE!!! I’m at about 45k and that’s halfway through the book.
Did. You. Read. That.
This is actually rather shocking to me, becuase I’ve never even written an entire book longer than 40k. I don’t think I’ve even written one that was 40k.
So this has been interesting.
I am still dreading the blurb writing for this book. I always hate writing blurbs. XD XD
This is literally my mood:
I didn’t even realize such true things existed on the Internet XD XD XD
But I don’t know if I need a formal blurb to get alpha and beta readers or not. Because, spots are open if you would like.
(Why am I offering this? Why am I doing this to myself?)
OKAY. Let’s stop complaining about my book and parading memes and GET TALKING ABOUT MY SMOL BEANS.
And if you scrolled really fast past this part to get past my long introduction and get to the actual meat of this post, all I’m saying is, you missed a lot of good stuff.
And if you could be so kind, please let me know which character was your favorite in the Gorgeous Happy Unicorn Wishes Suggestions Box (aka, the comments).
Also, it would be appreciated if you did not get mad at me or say that using actors as character models is bad writing or character development. Because I will just pull a beautiful Ron Swanson:
Because I must say you need to prepare yourself for a decent
(aka, excessive) amount of charie pictures in the proceeding post.
Okay, let’s move along with these characters before I go and say something crazy.
So, MC. Wyatt Creighton.
Also known as, Penny Wood’s personal smol bean son.
Guys, I love this kid. He’s sweet, polite, awkward, and makes awful jokes all the time. He was pretty tricky to create in his early stages of development, but he ended up being this bean that I just literally love.
Sometimes I think in the midst of this large cast of characters in HTAS he gets a little forgotten (even as the MC? #yikes) But really, I love with working with him. He’s much more easy to deal with that Casey Newman was in his book.
Now don’t get me wrong. I like working with difficult characters. BUT, Wyatt is such a nice kid and it is so much fun to watch him grow in this book.
This is Matt Creighton. Wyatt’s older brother. And one of my personal favorite characters.
Like where do I even begin with this bean?!
Matt is the oldest of his siblings, and he’s generally this large bean of stress, worry, tired, protective, kind big brother.
He’s also got like this strain of sass that makes him so. Funny.
His sass is generally directed towards Wyatt and Hale (more on him later), and sometimes even Elin. (But there are severe consequences when he dares to try that.)
I love this boi’s sass. It’s probably one of my favorite things about him. Except he’s kind. I could probably cry, he’s so kind.
^^^Just like this^^^
Okay I’ll stop.
And while we’re at it, here’s one of my OTHER personal favorites. Matt and Wyatt’s younger sister, Beck Creighton.
I think this girl invented the definition of the hashtag, #LikeABoss.
Beck is actually pretty quiet most of the time. But she holds more power than probably anyone in the book.
She’s actually Deaf, so she uses ASL to communicate with everyone. But no one thinks of her as disabled. Noooooooot by a long shot.
She’s in charge. She gets stuff done. She has a heart for taking care of hurt people. But she will also beat you up.
She can be rather…….grumpy at times. And quiet. But the greatest thing is this epic SASS she brings to the book.
She is so protective of her brothers, and she takes care of them so well. And HER RELATIONSHIP WITH MATT! It can be perfectly described in this picture:
And SPEAKING of Matt and Beck, I made a stunning discovery the other day. Now, I didn’t actually pick the Creighton sibling models because they looked similar. BUT, I was staring at pictures of my bean children (something I’m found doing quite often) and I realized, Matt and Beck look shockingly (and adorably) similar!
I even made a
completely pointless collage to show off the similarities in them.
LIKE I SAID.
(If you can’t see the similarity here, you are either, a) blind, b) jealous, or c) perfectly sane and I’m just looking too hard at this.)
Moving on, before I break down and start crying on my pizza.
This is someone whose very near and dear to the Creighton siblings’ hearts. Their cousin, Laurie Creighton.
I LOVE this girl!!!
(why do I keep saying that?) She is a perfect example of one of the many comic relief characters in this book. She’s crazy, loud, funny, weird, but also an amazing scientist.
I don’t even know who to compare her to. But she is so great. Everyone actually got to see a little of her personality in Episode 1 of Look Who’s Talking (which, needs to some out with episode 2 because that was fun. Please comment below with some ideas for who’s gonna be interviewed for episode 2!!!)
Laurie is awesome. End of story.
Now we’re getting down to business. This is Hale.
Wow. My Hale. This guy is a fascinating character to work with.
Can you say grumpy? I can’t decide who’s grumpier. Beck or Hale.
And so gruff! This guy has like zero sense of humor.
He actually has agoraphobia, and he’s absolutely terrified of germs.
But wait. you say. Isn’t this an action and adventure novel?
Yes. Yes it is.
I can’t even with my next person. Elin Browne.
How do I describe this girl? She’s an awesome mix of Mary Poppins, Leia Organa, Abigail Chase, Jyn Erso, Julie Andrews, with the kick-butt-ness of Lucy from The Lego Movie.
I love Elin. She is such a fun character. She was in the book even in the very early stages of planning, so she’s stuck through the weather of that. And she deserves it. I love the joy she brings to this book. She’s happy and joyful, but also she will put you in your place in an instant.
And this, my beans, is Brody.
(what nooooo this is not Bucky Barnes like what are you talking about absolutely not)
This is my boi Brody. I love him.
(Seriously Penny stop saying that) He’s so sweet and funny. And absolutely heartbreaking.
I was probably a little mean to Brody in this book. I really love this boi. But I kind of……did some awful things to him. My reader team as of now
(which is my alpha ALPHA team coz the book is not exactly…..done) are complaining that I’m an evil author. But I’ve always been called that. So that’s nothing new.
A good friend of the Creightons. Andrew Dalton.
(these pictures are a little iconic of Star Lord but oh well)
Andrew is AWESOME! He is hilarious, and helps Laurie in the comic relief department of the book. (But really, I think every character has their own way of adding comedy to the book) My BFF (who’s on the very smol and strange alpha ALPHA team) said he reminded her of Jim in the movie Passengers. (Who was, by total and complete coincidence, also played by Chris Pratt.)
But this boi is awesome. He’s so hilariously dumb, but also such a sweet dad and awesome guy.
And, since we’re talking about the Dalton clan, this is Nathan Dalton, Andrew’s son. He’s also Wyatt’s best friend.
This bean. I can’t. Can’t EVEN. He’s this awesome, adorable, prideful, techno bean who happens to be BFFs with Wyatt. He also has a smol bean crush on Laurie……
And his relationship with his DAD, Andrew. It’s literally this GIF:
And of course, how could I forget? Nick Hadley!
YES! Nick. This guy is awesome. He’s so like gruff, but he can also kick some butt. He also does not appreciate it being called old. He’s probably going slap someone before this book is over…..
Also, I’m interested to know Nick better myself (XD XD XD) because we haven’t had much time to chat lately so we’re due very soon. That’s why I don’t have much to say about him…..
And. Since a story is never complete until it has a villain…..
Yes, I know. He doesn’t look very scary.
But……let’s just say, you won’t be thinking that for long after you’ve read the book.
But I LOVE this villain boi!!! (I’m probably the only one who does at this point XD But let’s hope he’s a villain you love to hate, amirite?)
I’m scared of Horatio.
We all should be.
Please come claim your medal if you made it to the end of this post alive. That was long and tedious.
BUT, if you did like this, tell me about it in the Gorgeous Happy Unicorn Wishes Suggestions Box and I’d like to hear your thoughts! Who’s your favorite? Did you see the similarity between Matt and Beck? (you did) Are you ready to read this? Do you want to be an alpha or beta reader? (no you don’t)
Talk to me, beans!
